The Exceptional Edit/Mindset & Identity/If No One Around You Wants More, You Still Can

Tuesday, April 22, 2025

Olevia Rachel

You’re craving something more.
More impact.
More income.
More fulfillment.
More alignment between who you are and what you do.

But here’s the thing:
No one around you seems to want that.

They’re content. Or complacent. Or maybe just checked out.
You don’t judge them—but you don’t feel like you belong either.
And quietly, you wonder…

“Am I wrong for wanting more?”
“Is it selfish to want better?”
“Why does this feel so lonely?”

Let’s talk about what it means to want more when you’re surrounded by people who’ve settled—and why it’s not only okay, but powerful.

  • Your desire isn’t delusion—it’s direction.

That inner voice nudging you to reach higher? That’s not your imagination—it’s your intuition.
    It’s not that you’re ungrateful. It’s that you’re aware.

You’re not here to shame the people who’ve chosen comfort.
But you don’t have to mimic their choices to stay connected.

Sometimes wanting more isn’t about escaping your current life—it’s about expanding it.
More ownership. More creativity. More pride in how you spend your hours.

    That’s not greed.
    That’s growth.
  • Most people stop evolving because no one around them expects them to.

    Work. Dinner. TV. Sleep. Repeat.
That’s the pattern you see. And at first, you tried to accept it.

    But acceptance isn’t alignment.

    You weren’t made for autopilot.
You weren’t made to survive your week and collapse on the weekend.
You want to live. You want to build. You want to be proud of the way you move through your career.

And guess what? That means you’ll outgrow people.
    Not because you’re better—but because you’re becoming.
  • You’re not crazy for feeling frustrated. You’re just awake.

You hear the way your coworkers talk.
You hear your friends settle mid-sentence.
You hear people dream small so they won’t disappoint themselves.

But your soul wants a full meal. Not crumbs.
And that frustration? That’s your brain begging for more stimulation, more growth, more you.

It’s not wrong to want more.
It’s wrong to pretend you don’t.
  • Permission isn’t coming. Power has to be claimed.

No one is going to tap you on the shoulder and say,
“You’ve outgrown this now. Time to rise.”

And most people won’t validate your ambition.
    They’ll be confused by it.
    They’ll downplay it.
They’ll say, “Don’t you already have a good thing going?”

But the Exceptional Employee doesn’t ask to be chosen.
    She chooses herself.
    Even when it’s quiet.
    Even when it’s lonely.
Even when the people around her think it’s “too much.”

Because deep down she knows—this version of her is just getting started.

So What Do You Do When You’re Growing Alone?

A. Expand your inputs

Start listening to people who do want more.
Books. Podcasts. Blogs. Audiobooks. Even a five-minute clip on YouTube can remind you:
you're not alone—you're just early.

B. Own your goals—even if no one gets them.

You don't need to post a vision board or give a TED Talk.
You just need to claim it for yourself.
Say it out loud. Write it down. Repeat it daily.
"I want more—and I'm allowed to."

C. Build your future like it's real.

Update your resume. Start networking. Learn a new skill.
Don't wait for the people around you to catch up before you make your next move.

They don't have to want it.
You do.

This Is Your Life. You Don't Have to Shrink It to Match Someone Else's Vision.

You're not ungrateful.
You're not impatient.
You're not too much.

You're just not asleep anymore.

And if the people around you aren't dreaming big, it doesn't mean your dreaming wrong.
It just means it's time to walk toward your future with even more clarity.
