Olevia Rachel

You’re changing.
And not in a loud, dramatic, "burn it all down" kind of way.
But in the quiet, intentional way that matters more.
You're thinking differently.
You're speaking up more.
You're reaching for something better—even if you can’t fully name it yet.
And deep down, you know: You’re not who you used to be.
But here’s the part no one warns you about:
Sometimes, no one else notices.
Or worse—they do notice… and they try to downplay it.
You’ve started showing up differently at work.
You’ve pulled back from gossip.
You’ve read books that opened your eyes.
You’ve made moves, drawn boundaries, realigned your goals.
You’ve had the kind of mindset breakthroughs that shift the entire axis of your life.
But then someone who’s known you for years—maybe a friend, maybe a coworker—says something like:
“You’re still the same.”
And suddenly, it stings.
You want to scream, "No, I’m not! I’ve worked so hard to grow!"
But instead, you smile. You nod. And quietly wonder if any of this is even working.
It is.
Here’s the truth: people don’t always see your growth because they’re not looking for it.
They’re looking for the version of you that matches their memory.
They’re trying to maintain the dynamic they’re used to.
Your growth might require them to change, too—and not everyone is ready for that.
It’s not that they’re malicious.
It’s that they’re comfortable.
And your evolution is a mirror they didn’t ask to look into.
Let’s talk about this one, because it’s real.
There’s grief in growth.
The grief of realizing that the people who once felt like home… now feel like history.
The grief of knowing that outgrowing doesn’t always come with gratitude or applause.
Sometimes it comes with awkwardness.
Distance.
Resentment.
Silence.
You didn’t do anything wrong.
You’re not acting brand new.
You’re acting like someone who’s growing—and that doesn’t always fit into old rooms.
This is the part that separates the wishers from the walkers.
The dabblers from the doers.
The stuck from the rising.
Here’s what to do when you’re growing, and no one else around you gets it:
You’re growing. Don’t let anyone’s indifference convince you otherwise.
Let’s be real: sometimes you’ll hear stuff like…
“You’ve changed.”
“You’re not like you used to be.”
“Oh, you think you’re better now?”
And it might rattle you.
You might doubt yourself.
Here’s how to respond (even if you don’t say it out loud):
- Yes, I’ve changed. That was the point.
- I don’t think I’m better. I’m just not pretending I’m okay staying the same.
- It’s not about being above anyone—it’s about finally rising into who I was always meant to be.
Let the discomfort pass.
And then… keep walking.
If your circle can’t meet you where you are, build one that can:
- Follow accounts that stretch you, not soothe your stagnation.
- Join communities (online or offline) that challenge and expand your mindset.
- Read the books that wake you up, not lull you back into comfort.
Upgrade your inputs.
Your circle doesn’t need to be big.
Just brave.
